Missed Call Notification on Samsung S3

Are you a proud owner of the Samsung Galaxy S3 ? Do you have a persistent missed call notification which does not clear itself and there is a permanent red “1” icon on the Phone, Look no further, let’s look at the solution real quick.
I must confess, this has haunted me for months before I could find the solution. I went from ICS to JB and had the same problem. Off course my phone is on the Stock ROM.

The following steps needs to be taken to clear this out.
1. Reboot the Phone – Duh!, I guess you guys would have done this.
2. If you have voice mail services On, please ensure you have listened to all your Voicemails, and if possible deleted them and then rebooted your phone

If the above 2 steps have not cleared it out, here is what you got to do.

Go to your Settings app and click on Application manager, Scroll to the right , to select “ALL” and then select “Badge Provider”. Click on  Clear data

If needed, click on Clear Cache also (In the badge provider) and then reboot the phone. Voila! … The notification should now be gone.

Hope this helps !!!

    2. it was stupid of me to assume I was the only sufferer. After months of annoyance I'm so pleased to have landed up on this page. Thank you very much indeed. I tried the above for the "phone app" but now see that this makes so much more sense...and works a charm.

  8. i'm new to smart phones.. when i get the clear data part it warns me that "all of this applications data will be deleted permanently. all files, settings accounts databases etc" and i have no idea what the implications of that are.
i'd be really happy if someone could enlighten me. cheers. :)

    1. Kayotickley, it does exactly what it says, it will clear all the data of the "badge provider".

Badge provider handles the notification icons that you get on your e-mails, messages, phone calls, etc. Clearing it will just reset all the values to "0". It will not clear out any production data. Like you see a lot of people have done it without any impact.

Off course the warning message is a standard. for example, if you were to do this on your facebook app, it will automatically log you out and clean all the data that it has cached for you, and it will be as if you installed the application new

      Hope this helps

    1. Leaky Brain ... It should not happen continuously, should be just once or some thing. Unless that component is not working correctly. You may want to send it back to the Samsung Store for a reflash of OS or some thing :)
